The Price of Speed
In the summer of 2022 we decided to make a trip to the UK to do some racing outside of California and grow my attributes as a driver. One of the races that I was planning on doing was Kartmasters which is the biggest kart event in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe!
I had done 2 races in the UK prior to this event, but this was by far the biggest. On Thursday, August 3rd during the first session I was running P3 and feeling very confident, but that all changed.
Through the chicane at PFi Circuit, My steering wheel had sheared off, sending me straight into the barriers at 50+mph. I hit the wall, and in that shattered my Tibia, Fibula, and dislocated my ankle which was reset on track. I then went through 2 operations, one of those including a 5 inch long plate with 7 screws.
I was casted and on crutches for the next 4 months, then I was finally allowed to wear a medical boot, shortly after getting on track for the first time in 5 months. It was wonderful being back, but a very tough mental and physical journey.
Within 5 months of recovering was when I won my first race and ended that next season getting a championship trophy.
